Thanks to portable memory devices, you may transport your data, without any effort or difficulties, but their limited capacity can be a drawback. If you have a modern day Internet connection, you can use Tonido to access the files on your home computer from anywhere, regardless of distance. As long as your computer is turned on and connected to the Internet, you will be able to access any folder, on any partition, remotely, from a web browser.

Tonido can be downloaded and installed in about one minute, like any other application. Once installed, you must create an online account, which requires only a username, email address and a password. You can also find Tonido for Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and iPhone. This means that you may access your files from your mobile phone as well.

The application works in the background and you may double click its system tray icon to bring up the interface, on your default web browser. Its layout is similar to a standard explorer window. Your partitions and folders are displayed in a tree structure, on the left side of the window and you can access their contents in the larger area on the right. It is possible to switch between different view modes, to see your files in a list, as thumbnails or to see only audio files and a media player.

Tonido provides a URL, which you can use to access its web interface, from any computer. If your home machine is turned on and connected to the Internet, you can access any files, on its hard drive, from this web interface. If you don't want to keep your PC turned on just to copy a few items, you may synchronize them. Tonido lets you store up to 256 MB of data, for free, in a sync folder. This can be done on the interface, with an Upload option. The sync folder is created automatically on your hard drive, so it is also possible to synchronize your files just by placing them in this folder. Synchronized files can be accessed on any computer, even if your home PC is turned off. A client module can be downloaded and installed on remote computers, making it possible to synchronize files in both directions.

It is also possible to share data with users who don't have Tonido installed on their computers. After selecting a file or a folder, on the web interface, the software will provide you with a URL, which you can send to your contacts. Alternatively, you can add and manage guest users, who may access your shared data at any time. A series of applications can be installed and launched as well. You can use them to search for a specific file, remotely, back up your data, play your music and much more.

Pros

You can access your files, from any computer, on a web browser. With the application's synchronization feature, you can access a certain amount of data, even if your home computer is turned off. In addition, Tonido lets you share data with other users, stream your music and much more. The best part is that it works with mobile phones as well, so you can access your files from your iPhone, Android, Blackberry or Windows Phone.

Cons

If you want to synchronize more than 256 MB of data, you have to upgrade to the Pro version, which is not free. Thanks to its smart functionality, Tonido allows you to access your files, over the Internet, on any computer or your smart phone.
